Darla has a one of a kind #MeToo story, or so we can hope, as she finds the inner strength and courage to escape her abusers… with no money and no destination her spur of the moment run for freedom is in need of an assist.
Kapono isn’t his business partner Jim, and he’s probably never had any feelings about that one way or another before Darla walked into their bar, with what few hopes she has pinned on Jim.
This done in one quick read delves into several deep topics, grief, #MeToo, and the strength and confidence we can gain from our community as we grow up just being a few of them, and yet the story never feels heavy, but rather conveys the courage and fire of the characters, the resilience of people, and the magic we find within ourselves that somehow enables us to not only survive, but move forward.
